The Moonraisers are back on track with ‘Who Are We?’, a brand new album taking a big step back to the band’s roots: organic roots reggae favouring live instrumentation and analog production in lieu of the electronics that permeated their previous releases.
To bring this new record to life, Jaba (the band’s frontman and primary songwriter) and P. Brunkow (long-time sound engineer and producer of the band) have gone back to the drawing board to weave a tapestry of vibrant harmonies and melodies. From the very first chords, ‘Who Are We?’ sets the tone, opening the way to a musical journey of positive vibrations and joyful catharsis.
The recording process for the fifteen new tracks took place with a passionate group of musicians on a quest to surpass themselves in the studio. ‘Who Are We?’ subtly fuses and blends myriad musical genres within the spectrum of reggae, owing to the diversity and multiplicity of musical influences within the band.
The lyrics have a clear message, denouncing the modern society in which we live that drives us to endless consuming with no care for the harm caused to the planet and life itself in the process. Jaba, the band’s lyricist, is highly critical of the 21st century which he views as an era of decadence. The issues discussed within the songs are actual and pertinent, seeking to bring us as people and as a society to question ourselves about the lives we lead.
The sound design by P. Brunkow (Damp Studio – Saint-Blaise, Switzerland), coupled with a modern approach to mixing and mastering, brings out a modern edge to this ‘roots album’, artfully combining the best of two worlds together: the warmth and character of analog sound with the power and precision of 21st music production. One of Switzerland’s most renowned and talented producers, P. Brunkow produced the Moonraisers’ 4 previous albums (Human, Do the Right Step, the Story, and Boyo) and has composed many tracks for the band over nearly two decades of fruitful collaboration.
